At Kirkstall Precision Engineering, the power of teamwork is fundamental to our success both on and off the workshop floor. Recently, we embarked on our second team away day of the year, enjoying an exhilarating day at Another World Adventure in Halifax.
Stepping away from the daily grind into a fresh environment can stimulate creative thinking and innovation. At Another World Adventure, our team engaged in activities that challenged us to think outside the box. Engaging in new activities and settings helps break routine, fostering a creative and innovative mindset that we bring back to our precision engineering tasks.
Corporate away days provide an ideal setting for team members to connect on a deeper level. By removing usual machine floor distractions, employees have the chance to forge stronger bonds and develop meaningful relationships. This results in improved communication and collaboration back at the workshop, crucial for delivering the high-quality precision parts we are known for.
Away days also improve communication skills among team members. Engaging in team-building exercises in a low-pressure environment allows our team to practise effective communication, which translates to more efficient collaboration on the workshop floor. Enhanced team dynamics lead to better coordination and fewer misunderstandings, ultimately contributing to our precision and reliability in manufacturing.
In addition, participating in away days demonstrates that the company values and invests in its employees’ well-being and personal growth. This sense of appreciation significantly boosts employee morale and motivation. When our team feels valued, they return to work with renewed energy and a positive attitude, which is vital for maintaining the high standards required in our precision engineering tasks… and this wee have seen in abundance over the last week.
Craig Dowling, our Manufacturing Director, emphasises that away days are about building trust and collaboration among team members.
“It’s these bonds that enable us to work seamlessly together back in the workshop, ensuring every device we manufacture meets the highest standards of precision and reliability,” says Craig.
Adam Thornton, CEO of Kirkstall Precision Engineering, adds,
“Investing in team away days is about more than just taking a break. It’s about nurturing a collaborative culture where every team member feels connected and motivated to contribute to our mission.”
Team away days also serve as a platform for developing leadership skills within the team. Through activities that require decision-making and guiding peers, potential leaders can emerge and gain valuable experience. This translates into a more empowered and self-assured workforce ready to take on new challenges back in the workshop.
Participating in problem-solving activities during away days helps team members develop critical and creative thinking skills. These skills are crucial when working on complex precision engineering projects, as they enable the team to approach challenges with innovative solutions.
Outdoor activities and the change of scenery also provided by away days significantly reduce stress levels. This is particularly important in a high-precision field like ours, where maintaining focus and mental clarity is essential. A less stressed team is a more productive and accurate team.
At Kirkstall Precision Engineering, we understand that the success of our precision work depends not only on the tools and technology we use but also on the strength and cohesion of our team.
Team away days at places like Another World Adventure are crucial for fostering creativity, strengthening bonds, and maintaining a motivated and collaborative workforce. By investing in these experiences, we ensure that our team remains united, innovative, and ready to deliver exceptional results for our clients.
